Former Indian cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Virender Sehwag, on Sunday (10th July), indirectly questioned Virat Kohli’s place in the Indian XI after the conclusion of the T20I series against England.

Things are getting tougher for Kohli as his poor form with the bat continued even in the T20I series against England. The right-hander after having a poor outing in the one-off Test struggled to get going in the two T20Is he played and was dismissed for low scores.

With youngsters performing well for the side, Kohli has faced the heat and pressure is mounting on him to perform. He replaced Deepak Hooda in the side who is in red hot form and recently scored a T20I century against Ireland.

Many expected him to express himself and return to form but that wasn’t the case as his dry spell with the bat continued. With T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner, many fans and pundits have raised concerns over his form and feel that he’s blocking the way for youngsters.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Venkatesh Prasad posted a cryptic message and highlighted how even the reputed players were dropped earlier when they were not in form.

He remarked that there’s no way of progress these days as players are rested instead of being dropped when not in form and this needs to be changedd as there’s a lot of talent in the country and cannot play.

“There was a time when you were out of form, you would be dropped irrespective of reputation. Sourav, Sehwag,Yuvraj,Zaheer, Bhajji all have been dropped when not in form. They have went back to domestic cricket, scored runs and staged a comeback. The yardsticks seem to have.

“Changed drastically now, where there is rest for being out of form. This is no way for progress. There is so much talent in the country and cannot play on reputation. One of India’s greatest match-winner, Anil Kumble sat out on so many ocassions, need action’s for the larger good,” Venkatesh Prasad said.

Sehwag also raised concern over in-form players sitting out. He said that team management needs to find a way to play them in T20Is.

“India has so many batsman who can get going from the start , some of them are unfortunately sitting out. Need to find a way to play the best available players in current form in T-20 cricket,” Virender Sehwag Tweeted.
