Jos Buttler was a disappointed captain as England suffered a series-conceding 49-run defeat at the hands of India in the second T20I at Edgbaston on Saturday (July 10).

Chasing 171 to win, England’s innings folded for a paltry 121 in 17 overs. It was a listless batting performance as six of them fell for a single-digit score. Moeen Ali was the top scorer with 21-ball 35.

“Very disappointing. We didn't play anywhere close to what we wanted and deserved to lose,” Buttler said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The England captain showered rich praise on debutant Richard Gleeson, who removed India’s top three and conceded only 15 runs in his four overs. He also lauded veteran campaigner Chris Jordan, who returned with impressive figures of 4 for 27 in his four overs.

“The bowlers were excellent especially Gleeson and Jordan. Any time you lose three wickets in the powerplay it is hard to catch up. Not just the wickets but the guys he (Gleeson) got out, overall a fantastic debut. He has bowled fantastically well, CJ always bowls the pressure overs and the figures can sometimes cloud what he's doing,” he added.

The third and final T20I of the series will be held at Trent Bridge on Sunday (July 10).

“We don't have much time to reflect on it as the next game is tomorrow,” Buttler concluded.
