Many former cricketers have been suggesting the Indian cricket team management to play Rishabh Pant as an opener in T20I cricket, including Sunil Gavaskar, and now another former cricketer, Parthiv Patel, has also supported this idea.

Pant will be available for selection for the second T20I against England, starting on July 9 at Edgbaston, where the left-hander recently scored a century and a fifty in the rescheduled Test, and Patel believes that it will help him to shine as an opener in the match.

Parthiv Patel said on Cricbuzz: “DK has been the No. 1 finisher, Ishan Kishan has been the highest run-scorer for India in T20Is this year and Rishabh Pant is Rishabh Pant. Although he had a modest IPL, he will bring confidence from that hundred and a fifty from the Edgbaston Test. He can open in the place of Ishan Kishan and can get quite a few opportunities at the top.”

Meanwhile, apart from Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are also returning for the second T20I against England, and the former wicketkeeper-batter believes that Akshar Patel and Arshdeep Singh will make way for the duo in India’s playing XI on Saturday. He also said that Virat Kohli will also retain his place in the team.

He signed off by saying, “Axar Patel will be replaced by Ravindra Jadeja. Jasprit Bumrah will also come in for Arshdeep Singh. Shreyas Iyer I think might not make it to the playing XI. Both Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant might come back but it will be interesting to see who will be left out.”
