India leg-spinner Amit Mishra was unhappy with the Barmy Army’s attempt to take a dig at the Indian team after they lost the rescheduled fifth Test match to England at Edgbaston on July 5, 2022. With this win, England drew the series 2-2 and retained the Pataudi Trophy.

England registered their highest run-chase in Test cricket after gunning down 378 in 76.4 overs to win the rescheduled fifth Test against India by seven wickets. Joe Root (142*) and Jonny Bairstow (114*) added 269* runs to hammer the Indian bowlers giving the home side an emphatic win.

The hosts went into the final day at Edgbaston needing 119 while India, who held a 2-1 lead going into the contest, needed seven wickets. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow sealed victory in the first session, exhibiting an attacking brand of cricket that is quickly becoming the hallmark of the test team under new coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

Post this win, Barmy Army posted a graphic on their Twitter account saying that England had won the series 1-0. This didn’t sit down well with Amit Mishra, who said that it was typical with the British, who had a habit of distorting history as per their own needs.

Haash! British and their habit of distorting history for their own advantage.” Mishra tweeted.

The two teams will now clash in a series three T20Is from July 7 and three ODIs from July 12.
