Ben Stokes added 66 runs with Jonny Bairstow for sixth wicket.
Ben Stokes was trying to dominate the Indian bowling attack under the new ‘Bazball’ style of play that England has adopted since Brendon McCullum became the head coach and which helped them rout New Zealand 3-0 in the Test series at home recently.
Along with Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes added 66 runs for the 6th wicket, giving some stability and gaining the confidence to try and get on top of the Indian bowling both Bumrah and Shami were off and Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur came onto bowl.
It was Shardul Thakur’s first over and after one run off a no-ball in 3 deliveries, Stokes decided to tee off. He had earlier hit the ball in the air towards mid-off where Bumrah grassed a catch. Thakur then bowled one wide outside off the next ball and Stokes once again went after it.
Jasprit Bumrah moved a couple of steps towards his left and dived full length to grasp a brilliant catch, leaving Stokes stunned at his choice of shot and at the effort of the Indian captain.
