Thanks to Rishabh Pant's explosive ton, India finished the opening day at 338/7.
Pant arrived in the middle when the visitors were reeling at 64/3 but he played his natural game. The southpaw attacked the English bowlers from the outset and notched up his half-century in 51 balls.
After reaching the fifty, Pant went berserk and brought up his hundred in just 89 deliveries. He continued his carnage after the three-figure mark to put the hosts on the backfoot. Thanks to his exploits, the tourists finished the day at 338/7.

Following the close of play, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) uploaded the highlights on their official YouTube channel with the headline, “Joe Root dismisses dominant Pant.”
ECB’s description of the first day’s play didn’t go down well with veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik.
Taking to Twitter, Karthik tagged the handle of ECB and said that the headline could’ve been much better.
“After such an engrossing, enthralling days play, I'm sure the headline can be much better and apt than this @ECB_cricket. That knock by @RishabhPant17 land the quality of test cricket played by both sides were as good as it can be and this is how you sum up a day,” he tweeted.
