Umran Malik made his India debut last week.
Thanks to his IPL 15 exploits, Umran earned his maiden call-up for the national side. While the right-arm pacer didn't get an opportunity in the home T20I series against South Africa, he received his India cap in the recently held two-T20I series versus Ireland.
On his debut, Malik bowled only one over and conceded 14 runs from it while he played a key role in India’s thrilling victory in the second game.
Tasked with defending 17 runs in the final over, the 22-year-old secured a four-run victory for the visitors in Dublin.
Now, Umran Malik is making a mark on the tour of England. In the warm-up fixture against Derbyshire, the speedster returned with a couple of wickets on Friday (July 1).
Umran first knocked over Leus du Plooy, who attempted to play a scoop but failed to get a connection and had his stumps rattled.
Brook Guest was Malik’s second victim as he rushed Derbyshire’s wicketkeeper-batter with his pace and uprooted his middle stump.
Overall, Umran Malik returned with the bowling figures of 2 for 31 in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh (2-29), Venkatesh Iyer (1-18), and Akshar Patel (1-18) were also among the wickets as India restricted Derbyshire to 150/8 in 20 overs.
In reply, the visitors rode on Deepak Hooda’s 37-ball 59 and handy contributions from Sanju Samson (38) and Suryakumar Yadav (36) to overhaul the target with seven wickets in hand and 20 deliveries to spare.
