Bumrah becomes second fast bowler to captain India in Tests after Kapil Dev.
“Mr Rohit Sharma, Captain, Indian Cricket Team is ruled out of the rescheduled fifth Test against England to be played from Friday. Rohit underwent a RAT Test on Thursday morning and returned a positive result for COVID-19. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mr Jasprit Bumrah as captain for the upcoming Test and Mr Rishabh Pant as his deputy,” BCCI said in a media release on the eve of the Test match.
Bumrah will be only the second fast bowler to lead the Indian team in Tests after Kapil Dev, who last captained India in 1987 against Pakistan.

The Gujarat pacer had made his Test debut in 2018 against South Africa and became the fastest Indian to pick five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, Australia, and West Indies and also has a Test hat-trick to his name.
Currently, Bumrah has 123 wickets in 29 Test matches with 8 fifers to his name and a best of 6/27.
Jasprit Bumrah will bring a new perspective of a fast bowler while leading the Indian team and expect some surprises from him.
