Fox Cricket called Kohli's gesture classless in their Twitter caption.
This was an amazing comeback win as India was coming into this match after a heart-wrenching innings loss in Headingley. England had all the momentum coming into Oval and used it to bowl out India for 191 runs in the first innings.
But Indian bowlers fought back to keep England to 290 with a lead of 99 runs. England’s fielders did not help their off-color bowlers with sloppy catching as India racked up 466 runs in the second innings with Rohit Sharma slamming 61 and Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, and Shardul Thakur making half-centuries.
England needed 368 to win the match and despite the openers adding 100 runs, the rest of the batting couldn’t do much as Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja ran through their batting on day five.
Indian captain Virat Kohli is well-known for his animated celebrations on the field. After the fall of every wicket, he got pumped up and also lifted the team’s morale. He was the center of India’s victory celebration which included a trumpet gesture.
Fox Cricket used Kohli’s photo for a news piece and called the Indian captain ‘classless’ on Twitter. The entire caption reads: “‘Classless’: World divided as Virat Kohli trolls Barmy Army after embarrassing England.”
However, the tweet didn’t go down well with Wasim Jaffer and the former cricketer shut down Fox Cricket with a corrected caption from his own side.
He tweeted: “Captain Courageous: World applauds as Virat Kohli’s team brings the dead game to life and scripts historic win. Here fixed it for you @FoxCricket. #ENGvIND.”
