Virat Kohli has been the focus of all talks after the heavy defeat against England in the third Test at Headingley, Leeds. The Indian captain has scored only 124 runs in 5 innings and has got out in an identical way, edging the ball outside off-stump in all the innings.

Kohli, who had a disastrous tour to England in 2014, scored 593 runs in 2018 in the country. However, 2021 has brought back the horrors of 2014.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan opined that there is no problem with Kohli’s technique. However, he added that the batsman’s aggressive attitude was causing him trouble.

I feel more than the preparation, Virat Kohli looking to dominate is forcing him to play deliveries outside off-stump. It is just that small thing. More than technical, Virat Kohli’s aggressive thinking is causing him problems.Irfan Pathan said on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel.

Sanjay Bangar, the former batting coach of Team India, said that Kohli was being too impatient while facing the pacers.

"The bottom line as far as I am concerned is that Virat Kohli has not shown the patience that England bowlers have shown against him. That was the only difference,” Bangar said.

“He has not got out defending a lot of times. He has gone towards the ball in all his dismissals. If you see his dismissals from 2014, he did not get out playing the drive as many times as he got out defending. I feel he is playing the sixth or seventh stump delivery, which is not required to be played,” he added.

Kohli will want to make amends and score runs in the fourth Test that will be played at The Oval from 2 September.
