ENG v IND 2021: WATCH- Deepti Sharma rings the Lord's bell to start proceedings on Day 4 of second Test

She became the first Indian women's cricketer to ring the bell at Lord's.

India women's cricket team all-rounder Deepti Sharma was given the honor to ring the customary Lord's bell for five minutes to mark the start of play on Day 4 of the second Test between India and England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday (August 15).

Deepti has become the first Indian women's cricketer to ring the bell at the Home of Cricket, Lord's.

She also became the second Indian to ring the bell during the ongoing second Test at Lord’s after former Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer did the honors on Day 3 followed. The former England all-rounder Enid Bakewell opened the proceedings on Day 1 by ringing the bell at Lord’s.

Former England captain Andrew Strauss had rung the Lord’s bell on Day 2 of the Test along with children who had benefitted from the work of the Ruth Strauss Foundation on 'Red for Ruth' day.

Notably, Sharma is currently in England to play for London Spirit in The Hundred, where she has scored 77 runs and picked up eight wickets so far.

The all-rounder has played over 100 games for India in white-ball cricket. The 23-year-old has represented India in 61 ODIs, scoring 1541 runs at an average of 37.58 and picked 68 wickets.

In 54 T20Is, she made 470 runs at an average of 20.43 and scalped 56 wickets. Deepti made her Test debut against England at Bristol and made 54 runs in the drawn match in June 2021.
