Curran wasn't impressive against the quality Indian batters at Lord's.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was critical of Sam Curran’s bowling against India on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test, saying the left-arm seamer bowled like a schoolboy and made things a lot easier for the tourists at Lord’s.
Curran was the second most expensive bowler for England on the opening day of the second Test on Thursday, August 12, as he bowled 18 overs and conceded 58 runs with India post 278/3 at the stump, thanks to Rohit Sharma (83) and KL Rahul (127*) dominance at Lord’s.
Slamming the 23-year-old all-rounder, the commentator said Curran bowled like a schoolboy on Thursday and the way he bowled made it too easy for the Indian batsmen to score runs at Lord’s.
Vaughan said on the BBC’s Test Match Special podcast, “I love Sam Curran. He brings so much energy and buzz to any format. But I thought he bowled today a little bit like a schoolboy. It was so obvious the way he bowled, it was too easy for the Indian batters.”

He continued, “It was all right to swing one back into the pads and get you out. That doesn’t happen against quality. You've got to set the batters up. You've got to go across, across, and it might be the second or third over that you get one nipping back into the pads.”
The Englishman has further pointed out that his side doesn’t have plenty of depth in the fast bowling department presently and mentioned that if James Anderson and Stuart Broad are removed from England's attack, the team just looks okay.
Vaughan noted: “I will be brutally honest. I think, today showed me that we have got trouble coming ahead. You take Jimmy Anderson out of that attack today, and that is what England have got.”
He signed off, “We are probably just starting to see the prominence of Broad and Anderson, how great they are. You take Jimmy out of that attack today, I am sorry, the England team just looked okay.”
