KL Rahul made an impressive comeback to the Indian Test team after nearly two years. He opened the innings in the first Test against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

The opener's knock of 84 runs in the first innings attracted praises from experts and other cricketers, and looked good in the second innings as well, but got out for 26.

Former England captain David Gower while talking about Rahul’s innings said that the batsman looked more 'organized and disciplined' in the first Test than he did in the 2018 series. Gower added that Rahul kept his self-belief despite knowing he would face a lot of challenging deliveries.

"The key to batting on this surface was accepting the fact that you will get many deliveries that will beat the bat. There was plenty going on and any bowler would have fancied their chances on that surface. Especially as an opener you are always on the firing line. But as a batsman, you have to keep your own self-belief and I think that's what Rahul did very well,” Gower said on Cricket.com’s show 'The Summer with David Gower.'

"He looked very organized and disciplined on deliveries he was trying to play and you needed some luck to survive on that pitch. Not to get down and think you are playing badly when the conditions are favoring the bowlers, I think that's one of the things he did exceptionally well," he added.

The former England captain was also impressed with the way Rahul built his innings. He said that this innings will give the opener a lot of confidence going into the series.

"Just look at the way he built that innings. He has plenty of time to play. One of the great things about starting a series well is that it gives you confidence. You come into the side, get a chance... but Rahul has that experience and has played in all three formats of the game," he said.

The second Test between India and England will be played at Lord’s starting from Thursday, 12 August.
