India women faced off against Pakistan women in the sixth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on October 5, 2025. This match is being played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Earlier, it was expected that India women's team might continue the tradition that started with the Asia Cup 2025, where Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha, and the Men in Blue side did the same after the match. This continued in the India vs. Pakistan Super Fours and Final matches.
Since the Pahalgam terror assault and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, ties between the two countries have deteriorated, and bad blood has spilled onto the cricket ground.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia declined to provide a direct response, claiming that the board's position on Pakistan remains unaltered. Both clubs' pre-match press conferences offered no answers.
As expected, the Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, refused to acknowledge her Pakistani rival, Fatima Sana, at the toss ahead of their showpiece match in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. Once the coin flip was done, the two captains didn't shake hands and spoke to the presenter, Mel Jones, and went on their merry way.
