India and Australia to clash in the final in Ahmedabad on November 19.
India came into the summit clash unbeaten in the league stage and then defeated New Zealand soundly in the semi-final in Mumbai. Australia won 7 games on a trot in the league stage after losing their first two encounters. They barely managed to defeat South Africa in the semi-final in Kolkata.
The last time India and Australia clashed in the World Cup final was in 2003 and the Ricky Ponting side thrashed India in a one-sided contest in Johannesburg.
This time around, the Indian team has looked at a complete unit with lots of experience behind them. They came into the World Cup on the back of an Asia Cup title win and have played according to a set plan, which has benefited the team throughout the tournament.
The batting unit of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer have been wonderful, while the bowlers like Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and two spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja have been troubling the opposition throughout the tournament.
