Pat Cummins hailed Australia team’s efforts after they qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final after a thrilling three-wicket win over South Africa in the second semifinal in Kolkata on November 16.

The Australian skipper contributed immensely to his team’s victory against South Africa. Firstly, Cummins snared three wickets to help Australia bowl out South Africa to just 212 runs in the second semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Thursday, November 16.

Then, the star pacer scored an unbeaten 14 to take the Kangaroos over the line at the Eden Gardens, in a thrilling finish to a wonderful match.

After Australia’s enthralling win, Cummins was happy with his team’s bowling, and has special praise for the fielding against South Africa.

Pat Cummins said at the post-match presentation: “I think it was easier out there than sitting in the dugout. A nerve-wracking couple of hours but it was good to get the result. Wasn’t expecting Starc and Hazlewood to bowl so much early. We knew it was going to spin later on but there was a bit of cloud cover so I wasn’t too disappointed about bowling first.”

Cummins also hailed David Warner’s catch to dismiss Aiden Markram and Travis Head’s all-round efforts in the semifinal against South Africa. Head scored 62 runs and took 2 wickets in the match.

The Assie added, “We talk a lot about our fielding, probably wasn’t up to standard at the start of the tournament but we were fantastic today. Especially Warner who’s 37. Head was the man today, to take that crucial wicket in the middle overs. Inglis played that beautifully, he looked in total control out there, especially against two quality spinners.”

Well, Cummins is really excited for the final, as he is set to play his second ODI World Cup final. He said that there would be one-sided support for Team India, but they are ready for the final, which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, scheduled for Sunday, November 19.

He signed off by saying, “Few of us have played in a final before, a couple of other guys in a T20 World Cup final, the stadium is going to be packed, mostly going to be one-sided but it’s about embracing it. The 2015 World Cup was a career highlight, so to be playing another final in India, we are very happy as a unit, and we can’t wait.”
