Pakistan lost to England by 93 runs in their last league match on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, the Three Lions piled up a massive 337/9 on the board. Ben Stokes starred with the bat for England as he scored 84 off 76 balls while Joe Root (60) and Jonny Bairstow (59) also slammed half-centuries.
In reply, Pakistan’s innings folded for 244 in 43.3 overs. It was a listless batting display as only one batter managed to hit the 50-run mark. Agha Salman was the top scorer with 51 off 45 balls.
As the Men in Green failed to qualify for the semi-final, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan took a dig at former Pakistani players with a social media post.
Taking to X, Pathan wrote: “Kai padosi X cricketers ke dil ke arman ansuoo mein behe gaye. #dance”
In order to qualify for the semi-final, Babar Azam’s men needed to beat the defending champions by at least 287 runs to pip New Zealand as the fourth semi-finalist on the basis of net run rate. Batting second, they needed to chase down the target in less than five overs.
The task was improbable to begin with and Pakistan eventually finished the campaign in the fifth position on the points table, featuring 10 teams.
