Babar failed to deliver both as a captain and batter in the ongoing World Cup in India.
The Pakistan skipper entered the showpiece tournament as a No. 1 ODI batter but couldn’t do justice with the numero uno tag. In eight innings so far, the right-hander has registered scores of 5, 10, 50, 18, 74, 50, 9 and 66* in eight innings. In particular, his strike rate of 82.69 has drawn him criticism from fans and experts alike.
Babar has also come under the scanner for his captaincy as Pakistan have been effectively knocked out of the semi-final race. The Men in Green have lost four out of their eight matches in the marquee event so far.
Amid the scrutiny, a report published in Geo Super claimed that Babar Azam is likely to relinquish white-ball captaincy following the World Cup.
According to the report, Babar has been seeking guidance from former PCB chief Ramiz Raja and those close to him regarding his future. In fact, he was spotted having a lengthy discussion with Ramiz on the eve of Pakistan’s last league match against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The report further added that the suggestion was made to Babar considering the challenges that the upcoming Test tour of Australia will pose.
Pakistan will travel Down Under for a three-match Test series next month. Babar is likely to make the final decision after returning to Pakistan.
