Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar said that Team India is showing the whole world that they want to be champions with the way they are playing in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team, on Sunday (November 5), registered its eighth consecutive win in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 by handing South Africa their biggest-ever defeat in ODIs.

India bowled out South Africa for just 83 runs, while defending 326 runs, to win the 37th match of the CWC 2023 by 243 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. After this massive win, Gavaskar said that the Men in Blue are showing that they are the best team in the World Cup 2023 by a long margin.

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports: “You want to be the champions; you want to make sure that you win big. You want to show that you are the best team in the competition by a long distance, and that's exactly what the Indian team is doing at the moment.”

He added, “There is a match against the Netherlands which might be inconsequential because India is only now number one. But they don't want to stumble anywhere once it comes to the knock-out stages.”

The former Indian captain said that Team India have found the winning rhythm and mentality, which is important ahead of the knockout stages of the World Cup 2023.

Gavaskar said, “The whole temperament, your whole mental attitude towards the match will change because in the group stage you always think, Oh, there's another match to come. But there is no next day if you have a bad day in the in the knockouts.”

The legendary cricketer signed off by saying, “So, you want to get into that winning rhythm. You want to get into that winning mentality, and that's what the Indian team is doing.”
