The 37th match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 campaign pits India against South Africa. This match is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5, 2023. India has won all seven of its games thus far, while South Africa has only lost one.

In the match between two teams that have qualified for the semi-finals, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. India made no changes to their starting lineup, while South Africa added Tabraiz Shamsi in place of Gerald Coetzee.

Rohit Sharma gave India another flying start with a 24-ball 40 that included two sixes and six fours. Shubman Gill also scored 23 runs. However, Virat Kohli, on his 35th birthday, and Shreyas Iyer built a solid foundation for a launch in the closing overs.

Shreyas Iyer fell for 77 runs, but Virat Kohli continued on and made his 35th birthday a lot special. He completed his 49th ODI century in 120 balls with 10 fours. He held onto one end on a testing pitch and reaped rich reward.

He also became the third Indian after Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar to score a century in ODIs on his birthday. With this century, he also equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 tons in 50-over format.

Here is the moment when he reached his ton:
