India was asked to bat first after Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss.
India lost Rohit Sharma for 4 runs on the second ball of the match. But then Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli counterattacked and kept the scoring rate over 6 throughout their 30-over partnership which yielded 189 runs.
Shubman Gill got out for 92 runs and Virat Kohli followed him soon after for 88 runs. After this Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul got together to forge a small, but quick partnership.
While Shreyas dealt in sixes, KL Rahul hit two beautiful boundaries in his 19-ball 21 knock. He was looking set for a big one, but Dilshan Madushanka foxed him with a slower ball. Rahul in an attempt to hit the ball down the ground, only managed to scoop the ball to mid-off.
KL Rahul looked distraught at his dismissal, and in the stands, his wife Athiya was left disappointed as well. Not only Athiya, but Rahul’s brother-in-law Ahan was also present there to support the cricketer.
