KL Rahul won the best fielder medal for the second time.
Put into bat first, India managed 229/9 in 50 overs with Rohit Sharma top-scoring with 87 and Suryakumar Yadav making 49 runs. In reply, England could only manage 129 runs as Indian bowlers ran riot on their batting. Mohammad Shami picked four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah took three scalps.
India won by 100 runs and is now at the top of the points table with 12 points from 6 wins.
Meanwhile, after the match, BCCI shared the video of the best fielder medal presentation. This new thing instituted by fielding coach T Dilip has seen healthy competition among the Indian team players to do better on the field.
And with every match, Dilip’s way of announcing the ‘best fielder’ after every match has taken the internet by storm. The winner’s name was flashed on the electronic display board at the MCA Stadium in Pune whereas in Dharamsala, the spider cam carried the picture of the best-fielder.
In Lucknow, Dilip went a step further and gave the Indian team contingent a sight to behold.
“This medal is merely not about statistics. It’s not about just one good catch or saving some runs. It’s who brings on the spirit on the field. And what that one act you make how much the impact is making on the match. All that is counted and those are the winners,” said Dilip while addressing the players in the dressing.
He then asked everyone to come into the balcony of the dressing room and amid the excitement, he called the lights to be shut off. In the darkness, LEDs glowed bright depicting KL Rahul’s jersey in the stands.
The light and sound show has been one of the attractions at all World Cup venues and Dilip decided to use it perfectly.
This was KL Rahul’s second win as best fielder and he received the medal from last match’s winner Shreyas Iyer. “Here comes our unsung hero contribution. Sometimes things go under the radar but never go unnoticed. KL Rahul,” said Dilip.
