England and Sri Lanka are clashing in Bengaluru on October 26, 2023, in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. England came into this match having lost encounters in a row, while Sri Lanka was also looking for a win after a string of losses.

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first. Bengaluru has been a batting heaven thus far in the World Cup 2023, but this England innings proved to be completely different. Dawid Malan (28) and Jonny Bairstow (30) provided a solid start to England, adding 45 runs in 6.3 overs.

However, the Sri Lankan bowlers removed them, with Angelo Mathews on his Sri Lanka return taking the wicket of Malan. After that, it was a procession of wickets for England.

Joe Root got run out for 3, Jos Buttler (8), Liam Livingstone (1), Moeen Ali (15), Ben Stokes (43), Chris Woakes (0) and David Willey (14*) read the England scorecard. They were bowled out for 156 runs in 33.2 overs.

For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara took three wickets, while Kasun Rajitha and Angelo Mathews took two each.

Amidst the chaos, Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis showed brilliant game awareness. On the last ball of the 32nd over, Maheesh Theekshana fired a ball down the leg-side, which Mendis collected cleanly and was called a wide.

However, the Lankan skipper noticed that Adil Rashid at the non-striker’s end was out of the crease for some reason and fired a throw at the stumps. He scored a direct hit and replays showed that Rashid’s bat was short of the crease and the TV umpire gave him out.
