David Warner now has 6 World Cup centuries, just behind Rohit Sharma's record of 7.
With this century, David Warner equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 6 World Cup centuries and is now behind India’s Rohit Sharma, who has 7 tons in World Cups to this name. Warner, who slammed 163 against Pakistan in Hyderabad, reached his second consecutive hundred from just 91 balls with 11 fours and three sixes at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Warner also reflected on the significance of performing well on a global platform like the Cricket World Cup, which comes around every four years.
"For me, it's about going out there and doing my best. We live for those World Cups, every four years, we really have to shine at this stage. I try and emulate what I do in the bilateral series," David Warner said while speaking on Star Sports.
Talking about his match-winning knock, Warner considers it profoundly special to be recognized and compared in the same category as Sachin and Ponting, greats that he grew up watching and gets his inspiration from.
"To be in the same category and class is special. We have watched them growing up [on Sachin and Ponting). They are legends of the game. Now, I am trying to stay in the present, maybe in 20 years' time or 30 years' time, I will sit back and enjoy that," Warner added.
Australia will next face rivals New Zealand in Dharamshala on October 28.
