Australia comprehensively outplayed Netherlands to win by a World Cup record margin of 309 runs in Match 24 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Delhi on Wednesday (October 25).

David Warner (104) and Glenn Maxwell (106) smashed majestic centuries as Australia posted 399/8 on the board after electing to bat first, and in reply, Netherlands were skittled out for just 90 in 21 overs.

Warner batted beautifully to score his 22nd ODI hundred, registering back-to-back hundreds having scored 163 against Pakistan in Australia's previous match. He also equalled Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 6 World Cup hundreds, to be only behind Rohit Sharma (7) on the all-time list.

Meanwhile, Maxwell shattered records to plunder the fastest World Cup hundred of all-time off just 40 balls, the fourth-fastest ever in Men's ODIs. Maxwell hit 9 fours and 8 sixes in his 44-ball 106 and was named the Player-of-the-Match.

Maxwell later lighted a controversy of sorts during his post-match press conference, as he called the light and music show ‘dumbest, horrible idea’ which takes place at the ground during the drinks breaks in the evening. The light and music show has taken place in Delhi and several other grounds in India during the ongoing tournament.

“Well, I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game,” Maxwell said.

“And I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers. So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players.” he added.

Interestingly, Warner had a different view on the same, as he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love.”
