Later, scans confirmed a fractured finger and the left-armer was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.
"The inclusion of Carse to England’s squad was approved by the tournament’s Event Technical Committee," ICC said in a statement.
Brydon Carse has played 12 ODIs for his country, claiming 14 wickets at an average of 33.92 and an economy rate of 5.74. He also has a five-wicket haul to his name in the 50-over format.
England's next World Cup match is scheduled against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Thursday (October 26) and Carse will be available for selection.
The defending champions are enduring time in the ongoing World Cup. They have lost three out of their four games so far and currently languish at the ninth spot on the 10-team points table.
