Gill scored 53 as India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets.
India opener Shubman Gill struck his maiden half-century in the World Cup as Bangladesh came the fourth team to be steamrolled by hosts India in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Chasing Bangladesh's target of 257, India won by seven wickets with 51 balls to spare as Virat Kohli struck an unbeaten 103, his 48th ODI hundred. Along with him Rohit Sharma (48), KL Rahul (34*) and Shubman (53) contributed with handy knocks.
Gill, playing just his second match of the tournament, after missing the first two due to dengue, had a scratchy start before he found his touch and took 55 balls for his 53-run knock with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
As he began to find the boundaries, the cameraman constantly panned his camera on Sara Tendulkar, daughter of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who was in the stands at the MCA Stadium in Pune. She was seen clapping in excitement at one of his boundaries and later when he reached his fifty as he raised his bat to the crowd.
While the media has often linked them and hinted at their affair, both Shubman and Sara have so far not said anything to deny or confirm if they are dating each other.
