Jasprit Bumrah got Player of the Match for his 2/19 against Pakistan.
Pakistan was asked to bat first by Rohit Sharma who won the toss. Despite being 155/2 at one stage with Babar Azam scoring 50 and Mohammad Rizwan making 49, Pakistan only managed 191 runs.
In response, Rohit Sharma’s quick 86 runs and Shreyas Iyer’s 53* enabled India to achieve the target with 7 wickets in hand and 117 balls to spare.
Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his 2/19 in 7 overs. He picked the wickets of Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan, both clean bowled with amazing deliveries.
After the match, India vice-captain Hardik Pandya searched for Bumrah to get his thoughts on his performance and interviewed him for BCCI. He also had a chat with Mohammed Siraj, who had dismissed Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique.
“There I tried to use my IPL experience about how to bowl on flat wickets. I have been playing in the IPL for the past 11 years, so it helps. I have played a lot of junior cricket on this ground. Since it was a flat wicket, I tried to implement that experience of mine here.
Before getting hit for four boundaries, it’s vital to realise about the wicket right after one boundary. That’s what I was trying to communicate,” Bumrah said in a video posted by BCCI on social media.
Mohammed Siraj was also in conversation with Bumrah and Hardik, and he recalled Bumrah’s brilliant spell against Afghanistan in Delhi, where he took four wickets.
“If he gets hammered for a four off a flick, he instantly bowls a slower one. He is a legendary bowler,” said Hardik.
Siraj revealed that he was nervous to play his first ODI World Cup match against Pakistan.
“It was my first Indo-Pak match in India and my first World Cup stint, so I was highly nervous, along with some pressure. I had a talk with Rohit about Abdullah Shafique’s wicket. While my first bouncer didn’t work well, I tricked him into guessing about another bouncer and bowled a fuller one to trap him leg-before,” added Siraj.
