Pakistan and Netherlands clashed in the second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Friday, October 06 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The Netherlands captain won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first.

Pakistan side was buoyed by 68 runs each by Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan. At 182/5 when both Shakeel and Rizwan got out, it seemed like Pakistan would be restricted to a below par score. But then Shadab Khan (32) and Mohammad Nawaz (39) propelled them to 286 runs in 49 overs.

Bas de Leede shined for the Dutch with four wickets to his name.

During the Pakistan innings, Mohammad Nawaz looked like he could do more damage and push Pakistan to the magical figure of 300 runs. However, a comedy of errors cost him his wicket via run out.

On the second ball of the 47th over bowled by Colin Ackerman, Shaheen Afridi tried to play a reverse sweep but the ball ended up hitting his pad and went towards short fine leg. Nawaz saw an opportunity to steal a single and charged down the pitch, only to be sent back by Shaheen. But Ackerman failed to collect the ball at the non-striker’s end prompting the two batters to run for the overthrow.

Ackermann quickly retrieved the ball and made a direct hit at the batting end, where Nawaz was running. Despite putting in a dive, the Pakistan batter was found short of the ground and was dismissed.
