Former India cricketer and assistant coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Abhishek Nayar, has a crucial suggestion for the Indian cricket team regarding Shreyas Iyer, urging them to be understanding and patient with the talented player.

Shreyas has been struggling with a recurring back injury, which has been quite frustrating for him. He had to undergo surgery and, as a result, missed out on playing in the IPL, the World Test Championship final, and the West Indies tour.

He made his long-awaited comeback during the Asia Cup 2023, but unfortunately, his comeback lasted only two matches due to back spasms.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Nayar is emphasizing that it's important to be patient with talented players like Shreyas Iyer.

Abhishek Nayar was quoted as saying by Jio Cinema: “It was a concern, but he is good that he is coming back. It’s a spasm and with a spasm, you understand it is nothing serious. He got a couple of scans done and there was nothing serious and you understand he is going to come back.”

He added, “You have got to be patient with good players and I keep saying this ‘form is temporary and class is permanent. Shreyas has that class. He has shown that and has performed as well.”

Some people are suggesting that Iyer should be left out of the upcoming World Cup 2023 because of his back spasm issue and lack of game time, but Nayar believes that the cricketer should be given more time to regain his form.

Nayar signed off by saying, “It is whether or not he is fit enough to play, whether or not his body can take the workload of playing match after match. That is what you want to see. We all know that a player like Shreyas Iyer, in the middle order, against spin in Indian conditions, can counter-attack.”
