The BCCI men's selection committee on Monday (August 21) announced India’s squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, slated to be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

The 15-member squad was pretty much the same picked for the ongoing Asia Cup, barring the omission of Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and the young duo of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have been picked as the opening options, followed by Virat Kohli.

There were questions raised over Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s match fitness but the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel included both of them in the World Cup squad. Rahul will also be the wicketkeeping choice along with Kishan.

The selectors have shown faith in Suryakumar Yadav’s abilities even though the swashbuckling right-hander is yet to prove his mettle in the 50-over format.

The squad features Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur as seam-bowling all-rounders while Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel are the two spinning all-rounders.

Kuldeep Yadav is the premier spinner in the squad whereas Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj form the pace attack.

After the announcement of the squad, members of the Indian cricket fraternity took to social media platform X and expressed their views.
