India's World Cup-winning women's cricket team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 4.
What started as a formal discussion about India’s monumental win quickly took a humorous turn, thanks to Harleen’s spontaneous question.
During the meeting, PM Modi commended Harleen for her cheerful nature and her ability to keep the atmosphere light, even under pressure.
After responding to his remarks, Harleen caught the entire room off guard as she enquired Modi about his skincare routine.
“Sir, your skin is always glowing. Can you please tell me what is your skincare routine?” Harleen asked with a smile.
“I do not think about all that," the PM responded with a hearty laugh.
Someone from the team quickly added, “Sir, it’s the love of the millions of this country.”
Head coach Amol Muzumdar also chipped in, jokingly telling the Prime Minister, “As you can see sir, these are the personalities I have to deal with. Which has now made my hair go white.”
Indian women’s team arrived in the national capital on Tuesday evening for the meeting, two days after scripting a defining moment with a 52-run victory over South Africa in the title clash at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
During the interaction, PM Modi lauded the players for their "remarkable resilience and comeback" en route to the World Cup glory. He also mentioned the trolling players had faced on social media after the early setbacks.
The triumphant campaign was far from smooth for the Women in Blue as they faced heavy backlash in the middle of the tournament following their three successive defeats against South Africa, Australia and England.
However, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side exemplary mental strength to bounce back and script history, defeating Australia and South Africa in the semi-final and final to lift the coveted trophy.
