South Africa lost their third straight final of an ICC event.
Harmanpreet Kaur lifted the ICC Women’s World Cup, becoming the first Indian women’s captain to do so. On the other hand, the brave South Africans were more hurt than ever after losing in the finals of an ICC event for the third time in a row.
As South Africa attempted to chase India's 298 runs, captain Laura Wolvaardt led from the front with a superb century. But in the end, India won the match thanks to frequent wickets, with Deepti Sharma getting 5/39.
A video uploaded on social media by the ICC captured a few good moments in the aftermath of the rapid reactions, when India's players took time to extend a hand of gratitude and fair competition to their opponents.
Marizanne Kapp, the South African all-rounder, was consoled with a hug by her Delhi Capitals teammates Radha Yadav and Jemimah Rodrigues. This was Kapp’s fifth World Cup appearance and the first time South Africa played in the final.
Rodrigues was also seen talking with Nadine de Klerk, who finished the tournament as South Africa's top player due to her versatility.
Smriti Mandhana was seen conversing with Proteas skipper Laura Wolvaardt, who finished the competition as the leading scorer after scoring a century in both the semifinals and final. Chloe Tryon was seen thanking Deepti Sharma for her outstanding overall performance in the final.
