Shafali Verma won the Player of the Final and Deepti Sharma won the Player of the Tournament.
After winning the toss, Laura Wolvaardt chose to bowl first. Shafali Verma's outstanding 87 off 78 balls, which included two sixes and seven fours, lit up the DY Patil Stadium.
She and Smriti Mandhana (45) shared an opening partnership of 104 runs. India reached 298/7 in 50 overs thanks to Deepti Sharma's calm 58 and Richa Ghosh's rapid 34 off 24 balls, while Jemimah Rodrigues (24) and Harmanpreet Kaur (20) started but were unable to convert. For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka scored 3/58.
Wolvaardt led the innings with a brilliant 101 off 98 balls, striking 11 fours and a six, as South Africa chased 299 for glory. Sune Luus (25), Annerie Dercksen (35), and Tasmin Brits (23) all made helpful efforts, but South Africa fell short of the required scoring rate.
With an incredible spell of 5/39, Deepti Sharma destroyed the lower order and dismissed Wolvaardt, turning the tide of the match. India won the final against South Africa by 52 runs after dismissing them for 246. Player of the Match went to Shafali Verma, and Player of the Tournament went to Deepti Sharma.
This is India Women’s team’s first-ever ICC trophy win, and Harmanpreet Kaur received the silverware from ICC chief Jay Shah. Soon after receiving the trophy, she and the Indian women’s team celebrated on the podium as fireworks and confetti flew in the air.
