The arch-rivals are scheduled to meet for the first time in a Group A clash on October 10 in Johannesburg.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the schedule for the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup during a grand launch event in Cape Town on Thursday (October 1).
The 14-team tournament, set to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, will get underway on October 2, 2027, and conclude with the final on November 21, 2027.
The groups for the next year’s World Cup place India, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and Qualifier A in Group A, while Group B features South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Qualifier B.
To help fans plan travel and ticket purchases in advance, the ICC also pre-allocated fixed positions to major teams (India A1, Australia A2, Pakistan A3, England AB4, New Zealand B1, South Africa B2, and Sri Lanka B3). These slots apply for the Super 7s draw regardless of whether a team finishes first, second, or third in the initial group stage.
If a non-seeded country knocks out one of these teams and qualifies for the Super 7s, they will inherit the exact pre-seeded position of the team they displaced.
The top three teams from Group A and Group B, alongside the best fourth-placed finisher overall, make up the 7-team round-robin stage. The top four teams from this round will then progress to the knockouts.
As per the pre-determined seeds, India and Pakistan could face each other in the Super 7s on November 7 in Cape Town—provided both teams finish in the top 3 of their initial group. The arch-rivals are scheduled to meet for the first time in a Group A clash on October 10 in Johannesburg.
If both India and Pakistan advance past the Super 7s, they could potentially face each other for a third time in either the semi-finals (November 17/18) or the grand final (November 21).
Going by the pre-seedings, India’s other Super 7s fixtures should be against Australia in Victoria Falls on October 28, followed by South Africa in Johannesburg on October 31, New Zealand in Paarl on November 4, England in Gqeberha on November 11 and Sri Lanka in Durban on November 14.
However, as the official schedule dictates, these matchups are entirely subject to qualification. If a lower-ranked team like Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, or Bangladesh pulls off a group-stage upset and qualifies instead, they will simply step directly into that pre-seeded slot's schedule.
