India successfully defended their men's cricket title at the 2026 Asian Games in Nisshin, Japan, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in a high-octane gold medal clash on Saturday (October 3).

After choosing to bat first, India posted a commanding total of 211/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Explosive opening batter Abhishek Sharma set the tone with a destructive 61 off 28 balls while Tilak Varma provided the closing flourish with an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls.

Despite a valiant, solo rescue act from Hasan Nawaz—who smashed 96 off 51 balls—the Indian bowling unit held their nerve to restrict Pakistan to 192/6. India's spin duo of Axar Patel (2-29) and Washington Sundar (2-29) strangled Pakistan's middle order, while Shivam Dube closed out the match by dismissing Nawaz on the final ball.

Following the triumph, Dube described the top-podium finish as a deeply emotional and proud moment.

"This feeling is hard to put into words because we’ve won gold for the country. I feel this is a huge achievement for us; winning gold and making the nation proud, it’s something that transcends words. It comes from deep within the heart. All Indians know this, and hopefully, they will feel proud of us too," Dube told ANI.

The all-rounder also acknowledged the BCCI’s continued support for giving the players confidence and encouragement to perform at their best for the country.

“The BCCI supports us, and I feel that the support we receive from them enables us to perform much better in everything we do for the country," he added.

Earlier, Shivam Dube contributed a quickfire cameo of 15-ball 27 with two fours and as many sixes to take India past the 200-run milestone.

Alongside his batting, Dube picked up 2 wickets for 33 runs, defending the final over to secure the Asian Games gold medal for India.
