Malaysia was set to play Bangladesh in quarter-final of Asian Games 2026.
Malaysian cricketer Virandeep Singh made a cheeky post on social media platform X after their quarterfinal game in the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket event against Bangladesh was rained out. He said the Malaysian team never left the hotel or reached the field.
On Tuesday, the Asian Games men's tournament saw the abandonment of two rain-affected games, including Bangladesh's quarterfinal match against Malaysia. Two hours prior to the planned toss, the game was cancelled, and both sides were told not to show up at the location.
Due to their higher seeding, Bangladesh advanced to the semi-finals, where they will now play Pakistan on Thursday. Sri Lanka also advanced earlier in the morning following the cancelation of their quarterfinal matchup with Nepal. In the semifinals, Sri Lanka will play India.
Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh revealed on X that he was still in his towel and getting ready to leave for the ground. However, their game against Bangladesh was rained out in Nisshin.
“Was in my towel when our quarter-finals vs. Bangladesh were called off; sad we couldn’t even make it to the ground. Waited 3 years for another opportunity to play against a test nation but was not meant to be, I guess. Associate cricket is tough, lol,” Virandeep Singh posted on X.
Though the quarter-final games were rained out, things look bright and sunny for the semi-final games in Nisshin, as the rain forecast is favorable for the semi-finals on Thursday and the medal games on Saturday, October 3.
In the 2023 Asian Games in Guangzhou, Bangladesh lost to India in the semi-final but then defeated Pakistan in the bronze medal match. On the other hand, India defeated Afghanistan in the final to clinch the gold medal.
The Indian women’s team has already won the gold medal, having defeated Sri Lanka women a few days ago.
