India will face Japan in a T20I match on September 22, and will begin their Asian Games campaign on September 28.
The India men's cricket team will sport the regular BCCI jersey for its historic one-off T20I match against Japan on September 22, while the sizing issue involving the official Asian Games apparel supplied by JSW Inspire has now been resolved, a Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) source confirmed to ANI.
"Team India will wear the BCCI jersey for the match against Japan. The team has received its Asian Games kit for the rest of the tournament, and the issue has been resolved," the MYAS source quoted as saying by the news agency on Saturday (September 19).
The 20th Asian Games officially kicked off on September 19 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, running through October 4, with India's contingent participating across 36 sports.
India enter as the defending champion in both men's and women's cricket events. The Shreyas Iyer-led will open the campaign directly in the quarter-final on September 28.
The MYAS source also clarified that because the match is a standalone friendly commemorating 75 years of India-Japan diplomatic relations and not an official part of the continental event, the team will don standard national colors.
"The team will play the match against Japan in their normal kit as the match doesn't belong to the Asian Games; it's a friendly match. But for the rest of the tournament, the size issue has been resolved and they have received their kit for the tournament," the MYAS source added.
Earlier, it was reported that the Men in Blue have encountered a series of organizational hurdles regarding their kits and logistics just before their scheduled departure for the 2026 Asian Games on Sunday (September 20).
"There was a sizing issue in kits of cricketers; the majority of them have been rectified. There are a few left, and they will be delivered to the team shortly. With players needing two different jerseys there (one for bilateral and another for Asian Games), this can happen," An Indian Olympic Association (IOA) source told PTI.
In addition to the clothing delays, the BCCI has stepped in to make independent hotel arrangements for the men's squad. This decision was made because the size of the men's contingent -- inflated by a large support staff -- exceeded the permissible limits set by the organising committee.
In contrast, the women's cricket team is staying within the official facilities provided by the organising committee, as their total contingent size fits comfortably within the allowed 20-member limit.
