The multi-sport event has drawn complaints from several Asian cricket boards regarding subpar facilities.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) ensure single-occupancy rooms for players during the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The multi-sport event, running from September 19 to October 4, 2026, has drawn complaints from several Asian cricket boards regarding subpar facilities.
Reports flagged that initial plans utilized dressing rooms set up inside tents, with washrooms situated nearly 500 metres away from the makeshift cricket venue (a converted baseball stadium).
Concerns emerged over exceptionally small hotel rooms, prompting the BCCI to appeal that players not be forced into sharing rooms.
Meanwhile, a report published by NDTV claims that the Indian men's cricket team will be lodged on a cruise ship, while the women's squad will stay in a hotel.
According to the report, the BCCI will pay for the airfare of its players and will not seek funding from the Sports Ministry. All players will travel business class to Japan. The women's team will arrive on September 14 and return on September 23. The men's team will arrive on September 21 and return on October 4.
Addressing the player comfort, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia on Thursday (September 3) that there are no immediate, pressing concerns, but assured that the board is fully prepared to step in and establish its own infrastructure and high-quality amenities for the Indian cricket squads if required.
"There is no such issue that we have discussed or which has been on our agenda today or previously. So, we are not going to face any difficulties in Japan. If any situation arises, we will take an appropriate call at the right time to ensure that our players and support staff receive the best facilities at the Asian Games, whether from the organisers or otherwise.
"If required, the BCCI will have its own system in place to provide the best facilities to our players," Saikia told reporters after a review meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday.
Speaking to IANS, Naoki Alex Miyaji, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Japan Cricket Association (JCA), on Wednesday said that participating cricket teams are being offered hotel accommodation, while teams are free to arrange their own accommodation if they opt to do so.
Earlier, the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) issued a joint statement, confirming that lodging is fully secured for all the registered athletes and officials.
"Further to incorrect media reports regarding issues in securing accommodation for official Asian Games Participants, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) can confirm the following: All the 17,000+ athletes and officials that are registered for the Asian Games before the closing of Entry by Name in July have been provided with Games-appropriate accommodation," the statement read.
"Unless there are exceptional circumstances, no further registrations have been or will be permitted. The final preparations are on track and progressing smoothly ahead of what promises to be the most spectacular Asian Games in generations," it added.
