India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to win the Asia Cup.
India annihilated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023 final on Sunday (September 17) in Colombo, to record their eighth title in the continental event.
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first, as India brought back their rested players from the previous match against Bangladesh and replaced the injured all-rounder Akshar Patel with Washington Sundar.
Jasprit Bumrah sent back Kusal Perera in the first over for a duck to put Sri Lanka on the backfoot straightway. However, it was Mohammed Siraj who broke the back of the co-hosts, picking up four wickets in his second over. He soon picked up his fifth wicket to leave Sri Lanka reeling at 12/6.
Siraj then dismissed the top-scorer Kusal Mendis for 17, to have astonishing figures of 6/7 with Sri Lanka at 33/7. Thereafter Hardik Pandya joined the fun, picking up 3/3 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 50, their second-lowest total in ODIs. Siraj finished with 6/21, the fourth-best figures by an Indian bowler in Men's ODIs.
Ishan Kishan joined Shubman Gill to open the innings as the duo achieved the 51-run target in just 6.1 overs to seal the 10-wicket win with 263 balls remaining - most ever for India to win a game.
The Indian team members celebrated their 8th Asia Cup title win by sharing pictures and messages on their social media accounts.
