Siraj picked 6/21 as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 50 and India won the final by 10 wickets.
Sri Lanka batted first after Dasun Shanaka won the toss, but he wouldn’t have thought what was in store for his team. The start of the match was delayed a bit due to rain and this helped the Indian bowlers.
Jasprit Bumrah picked one wicket in the opening over, but Mohammed Siraj, in the fourth over of the Sri Lankan innings, picked four wickets and reduced the opposition to 12/5. He continued his demolition job as he finished with figures of 6/21, the best by a pacer in the Asia Cup, and Sri Lanka was bowled out for 50 in 15.2 overs.
Hardik Pandya helped by picking 3/3 in the end.
However, the star of the show was Mohammed Siraj who was overflowing with energy as it was his day. In the 4th over of the Lankan innings, Siraj had picked three wickets in the first four balls. However, Dhananjaya de Silva pushed the fifth ball of the over, a length delivery for a four in the vacant mid-off region.
Despite Ishan Kishan giving the ball a chase, Mohammed Siraj began chasing the ball as well and even managed to beat Kishan to the boundary in a hilarious display of energy.
But this display by Siraj of chasing the ball to the boundary left Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill in the slips laughing as they discussed the bowler’s antics. Even vice-captain Hardik Pandya couldn’t suppress a smile, as he lauded Siraj for his enthusiasm.
