Pakistan won the toss and chose to field.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Men in Green came into this encounter with an unchanged XI from the last game. India had to make two changes as Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul came into the side for Mohammad Shami and Shreyas Iyer, who suffered back spasms.
The opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a positive start, with the latter doing the bulk of the scoring. They accumulated 61 runs in the first powerplay and went on to add 121 runs for the first wicket.
While, Rohit Sharma made 56 and Shubman Gill scored 58 runs, the Punjab batter could’ve been dismissed early if not for Salman Agha and Iftikhar Ahmed making a hash of an easy chance.
The incident took place in the eighth over bowled by Naseem Shah, as he delivered a wide, back-of-a-length delivery, moving away from the batter. Gill, who was then batting on 30(20), took a slash at the ball.
The ball went flying between the first and second slips, however, the two fielders- Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed- just kept looking at each other and neither went for the catch as the ball sped to the third man boundary.

The bowler was not at all impressed with the effort and even former India batter Gautam Gambhir, who was then commentating on air, was surprised by the poor effort.
“That was a surprise because it was Iftikhar's catch. How big will this miss prove to be?” Gautam Gambhir reacted to the missed opportunity.
Not only Gambhir, but fans on social media also reacted to the dropped catch by Iftikhar and Salman.
