The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), hosts of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, were left red-faced after a floodlight malfunctioning led to a 20-odd minute stoppage during the Super 4s encounter between the hosts and Bangladesh in Lahore.

The match being played at the Gaddafi Stadium saw Bangladesh choosing to bat first on a batting beauty. But the Pakistani seamers proved to be too hot to handle for them. They were quickly reduced to 47/4 with last match’s hero Mehidy Hasan Miraz getting out for a golden duck.

But veterans Shakib Al Hasan (53) and Mushfiqur Rahim (64) added 100 runs for the 5th wicket to bring some respect to the Tigers’ innings. After their dismissal, Bangladesh was bundled out for 193 in 38.4 overs.

Haris Rauf picked 4/19, while Naseem Shah took three wickets.

Pakistan began their chase well and were 15/0 when light in one of the towers installed at the Gaddafi Stadium went off. No exact reason for the malfunction came to light, but the match had to be halted for a good 20-minute period with Pakistan openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman having a chat with the umpires.

Finally, the bulbs on the tower started glowing once again and the players were back on the field for the proceedings to start.

This was enough for the netizens to make fun of the PCB’s arrangements on social media.

Here are some of the best ones:
