India keeper-batter KL Rahul will be joining the Men in Blue squad for the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament on Tuesday, reports suggested on September 4.

Rahul, who had undergone thigh surgery to correct a hip flexor injury he had suffered during the IPL 2023, had been rehabbing and recovering at the NCA in Bengaluru. He had done well and had shared videos of his recovery on social media, of him batting and doing wicketkeeping drills as well.

He along with Shreyas Iyer were given the fitness clearance for their respective surgeries, and they were named in the Asia Cup 2023 squad. However, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had revealed that Rahul experienced a groin niggle and that he would continue treatment at the NCA.

He didn’t fly out to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup and coach Rahul Dravid had confirmed that he would miss the first two Group A games against Pakistan and Nepal, as he needs more time to get ready.

In an encouraging piece of news for Team India, Rahul has recovered from that niggle and will now join the Indian squad for the rest of the Asia Cup tournament.

“Rahul cleared his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (in Bangalore) today. He’ll join the team on Tuesday,” a source in the BCCI confirmed to TOI.

This is also good news for BCCI selectors who had delayed in announcing the provisional Indian team squad for the World Cup 2023.

And now, the India squad will be announced on Tuesday, September 5 with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Sri Lanka and the selection will be done via video-conferencing. India’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup will be announced on Tuesday at 1.30 PM IST in Kandy.
