Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 89 runs.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh made merry on a beautiful batting track and posted 334/5 in 50 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 112 and Najmul Hasan Shanto made 104 runs, while captain Shakib Al Hasan blasted 32* in 18 balls.
In response, Afghanistan batters fell short in the huge run chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Ibrahim Zadran made 75 and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi made 51, but Taskin Ahmed’s 4/44 and Shoriful Islam’s three wickets were enough for Bangladesh to bowl out Afghanistan for 245 runs and win the match by 89 runs.
Apart from a gripping game of cricket, the altercation between Bangladesh quick Hasan Mahmud and Afghanistan batter Rahmat Shah caught the attention of the viewers.
In the 7th over of the Afghan innings, a 23-year-old pacer bowled a fuller delivery to Shah and the latter drove it back to the bowler. Mahmud picked up the ball and threw it straight at the batter’s end. Shah evaded the throw but it left him fuming over Mahmud’s gesture.
Rahmat Shah was seen gesturing towards the bowler who just turned back without any apology and walked to his bowling mark, while Rahmat had a word with the umpire.
