“Virat Kohli has been using his feet very well lately,” says Sanjay Bangar ahead of Asia Cup 2023

Virat Kohli is expected to score plenty of runs for India in the upcoming Asia Cup.

After enduring an extended lean patch, Virat Kohli is back to scoring runs consistently. He has slammed two centuries each in Tests and ODIs this year so far besides a couple of tons in the IPL 2023 season for RCB

With less than a week to go for India’s Asia Cup 2023 campaign, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar has said that Kohli has been using his feet very well lately.

Bangar was also pleased with Kohli’s approach in a preparatory camp in Alur ahead of the continental tournament.

“From the visuals that I have seen, it is very clear that Virat Kohli is targeting the mid-wicket region. We saw him play some big shots and sweep. Everybody knows that Kohli doesn't play the sweep shot very often, so the field is set accordingly. He also played a lot of backfoot shots, using the depth of the crease,” said Bangar on Star Sports.

“Virat Kohli has been using his feet very well lately. There is a reason behind this improvement. There was a phase in between where he played with a high or a pre-loaded backlift. He is now playing bat tap, which is very helpful in judging the length of the ball. This is why his shot-making has become so brilliant,” he added.

Kohli was last seen in action during the tour of West Indies last month, featuring in the two-match Test series and the first ODI. While Virat didn’t get a chance to bat in the only ODI he played, he registered scores of 76 and 121 in the two Test innings.

While the Asia Cup 2023 gets underway on August 30 with the Pakistan versus Nepal clash in Multan, India will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Pallekele on September 2.
