KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been out of competitive action for quite a while.
The continental tournament is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 30 and September 17.
Rahul and Iyer were an integral part of India’s ODI team before sustaining terrible injuries earlier this year. In their absence, the Men in Blue were forced to experiment with their batting line-up in the recently held ODI series against West Indies.
Addressing the media after the fifth T20I against West Indies in Florida, Dravid suggested that some of the players currently recovering from injuries, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul and Iyer, might get an opportunity to feature in the Asia Cup.
Notably, Bumrah is set to make a comeback after a lengthy injury hiatus during the T20I series against Ireland, starting August 18 in Dublin.
"We have a few guys coming back from injuries in any case. We have to give them opportunities to play (in Asia Cup)," Dravid told reporters.
While Shreyas Iyer underwent a surgery in April for his recurring lower-back injury, KL Rahul underwent a thigh surgery a month later. Both players are currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
On Monday (August 14), India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who is also at the NCA for his rehabilitation, shared a video of Rahul and Iyer in a partnership in the middle during a match simulation exercise. The two batters ran a single comfortably after one of them pushed a delivery to the deep cover fielder.
Speaking to the media, Dravid also revealed that India's Asia Cup-bound players will assemble at the NCA next week to intensify their preparations for the tournament.
“We have some time off and then will have a camp at the NCA in Bengaluru from August 23. We will be assembling as a one-day team there to prepare for the Asia Cup. We will take it as it comes," the coach stated.
India will open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Pallekele on September 2.
