Bangladesh on Saturday (August 12) announced their 17-member squad for the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup, slated to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 30 to September 17.

The Tigers have included uncapped opener Tanzid Tamim in their squad, while batter Shamim Hossain receives his maiden ODI call-up.

Tanzid, who scored three half-centuries in the Emerging Asia Cup, has been rewarded for his consistent performances. He provides Bangladesh with an opening option in the absence of Tamim Iqbal, who will miss the continental tournament due to back injury.

On the other hand, Shamim will now get a chance to showcase his skills in the 50-over format, having already featured in 17 T20Is.

All-rounder Mahedi Hasan has received a recall after being out of the ODI set-up since March 2021. A striking omission was that of veteran batter Mahmudullah along with Taijul Islam and Rony Talukdar, who were part of the ODI series against Afghanistan last month.

However, Taijul features in the list of standby players alongside Saif Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Bangladesh will open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on August 31.

Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Das, Tanjid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mamhud, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Shamim Hossain, Afif Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain, Mohammad Naim
