Shreyas Iyer, the talented Indian middle-order batter, is most likely to miss the Asia Cup 2023 tournament as he is still experiencing troubles with his back while rehabbing at the NCA in Bengaluru.

Iyer had undergone surgery in London for his lower back in April this year after the conclusion of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series 2023 against Australia. He had missed the New Zealand series and the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a back injury.

He was also not named in the Indian squads for the Test and ODI series in West Indies and was aiming to return to the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2023.

Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source told the Times of India.

However, with Iyer suffering from continuous back issues, he is unlikely to make his India comeback in the Asia Cup tournament.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the schedule for the 2023 Asia Cup. The tournament will take place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 17. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will participate in the 13-match ODI tournament.

Pakistan will host the first four matches of the tournament, and Sri Lanka will host the remaining matches, including the final.

India, Pakistan, and Nepal are placed in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are placed in Group B.
