Asia Cup 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as Sri Lanka defeats Pakistan by 5 wickets in dress rehearsal for final

Pakistan and Sri Lanka to meet in Asia Cup final on Sept 11 in Dubai.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan met in the dress rehearsal for the final of the Asia Cup 2022 in the last super 4s match in Dubai on September 9, 2022. 

Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bowl first, a pattern for this tournament. Pramod Madushan made his T20I debut for Sri Lanka, while Pakistan brought in Usman Qadir and Hassan Ali for Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah.

Madushan struck quickly, getting Mohammad Rizwan out for 14 runs, and then Wanindu Hasaranga took care of Babar Azam for 30 and Iftikhar Ahmed for 13 runs, while Fakhar fell for 13 as well, to Karunaratne.

In the end, Pakistan folded for 121 runs with Mohammad Nawaz contributing 26 runs. For Sri Lanka, Hasaranga took 3/21 while Theekshana and Madushan took two wickets each.

In reply, Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf got rid of Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka for ducks. Pathum Nissanka remained unbeaten for 55 with 5 fours and 1 six. Bhanuka Rajapaksa made 24 and captain Shanaka made 21 runs, as Sri Lanka reached home in 17 overs with 5 wickets to spare.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for a total team effort by Sri Lanka as their performance showed that they look set for the final, which will be played at the same venue on September 11.
